Back Pain Treatment Without Surgery, Edmond and the OKC Metro

Back pain is the most common reason patients visit OKC Pain Relief. When it involves disc compression, facet joint irritation, or the muscles surrounding the spine, a combination of Spinal Decompression Therapy and Class IV Laser Therapy often produces better results than either treatment alone. Our clinic is in Edmond, and we treat back pain patients from across the Oklahoma City metro.

What It Is

Why Back Pain Is Often More Than a Muscle Problem

Most back pain that doesn't resolve in a few weeks has a structural component. The most common culprits are discs, the cushioning structures between each vertebra. When a disc is compressed, herniated, bulging, or degenerating, it can press on nearby nerve roots and cause pain that ranges from localized aching to radiating pain down the leg.

Muscle tension and spasm in the back are usually a secondary response. The muscles tighten to protect the injured area, but that guarding creates its own layer of pain and limits your ability to recover. Treating only the muscles, through stretching, massage, or anti-inflammatories, often provides temporary relief without addressing the disc problem underneath.

So we treat the disc and the muscle layer together. Spinal decompression takes pressure off the disc itself. Class IV laser works on the inflammation, nerve irritation, and the guarding that builds up around it. When the disc problem has already produced sciatica or traces back to a herniated disc, the plan changes to match what the imaging shows.

Back pain with symptoms like bowel or bladder changes, saddle-area numbness, or rapidly worsening weakness requires immediate medical evaluation, it is not appropriate for chiropractic care and should be assessed in an emergency setting.

Common Sources of Back Pain We Treat

  • Herniated or bulging discs at L4-L5 or L5-S1
  • Degenerative disc disease in the lumbar spine
  • Facet joint irritation and osteoarthritis
  • Sciatica caused by disc compression of the sciatic nerve
  • Chronic low back pain without a clear surgical indication
  • Muscle spasm and guarding secondary to disc injury

A free consultation determines which of these is driving your pain and whether our treatments are appropriate for your specific situation.

How We Treat It

The Decompression and Laser Approach to Back Pain

📋

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Motorized traction gently creates negative intradiscal pressure, which may allow herniated or bulging discs to retract and encourages nutrient flow to discs that have dehydrated over time. Most lumbar back pain patients respond well to a course of 20 to 30 sessions.

Class IV Laser Therapy

Focused light energy penetrates the paraspinal muscles and disc area to reduce inflammation, calm irritated nerve tissue, and support soft tissue repair. For back pain patients, laser therapy is often applied before or after decompression sessions to maximize the cumulative effect.
